Victor hears the scratching too and rises up off of the ground himself, wrapping a hand around her wrist again and towing her away from the well.

"You're welcome," he says. "Let's stick together; I don't know about you, but I'm not exactly equipped to fight anything like that on my own."

Her shield thing at least seemed to have been holding up well until she'd risen up off of the ground and revealed the hole in it.
