If a look could kill, Rico would have been a dead man and Thad would of have quite a lot to explain to the Legion. And chances were they would not have accepted 'sorry, but he was too incompetent, you would have done it too if you were there' as a proper excuse. Luckily for the both of them, Thad did not have that kind of power, so Rico would live another day, or at the very least he would live for as long as it took the horde of robo-zombies to make their way up to the room.

There was nothing indicating what might be inside, and while he could just pass his hand through the front of it, he preferred not to go blindly grouping around and grabbing at what might be dangerous chemicals, equipment, or experiments. The keypad on it didn't look too hard to crack, but it seemed it would also need a key.
