The webbing bounces off Wash's head, and he jerks as though he's been slapped. This isn't the first time he's hallucinated, or the worst time, or the most extreme time. This is the first time, however, that his hallucination has had a physical component. That's not how it works.

He shuts that thought down before it can finish. No. No. If he starts believing his hallucinations, he really will be insane. Maybe it's the painkillers, or maybe he's still dreaming; either way, it's not real.
"That's not real," he says, keeping his gaze on the wall, and talking back to the hallucinations is a mistake but he can't help himself. "None of that was real. You're not real."
That's what he wants to believe, at least. He doesn't sound terribly sure.
