"Hey, empty paw here. Check this action out. This is prime ring real estate."
Nothing. The rings just whizzed around and none of them drew close.
"I'm not even going to chuck you into a volcano or anything," he added helpfully.
Still nothing.
He gave Judy a confused look.
"I guess I'm out of the running when it comes to using these things to summon Captain Planet."
What did that even mean? That he was unworthy for some reason? Was it just that he didn't have enough of whatever each ring wanted?
"I guess it makes sense when you think about it." He ticked one off each paw. "I use up all my willpower for the day just waking up and acquiring a latte. Compassion is...eh."
He really was not the most compassionate person, hence his being a total jerk and a half to Judy when he first met her. He'd gotten better about it since becoming a cop, but it was all in abstract. Yes, he cared about helping people, but it wasn't like his heart was bleeding all over the place for people.
"Hope is for chumps that don't want to put the work in to make things happen. And as for love..."
The rolliest of eyerolls.
He wiggled his empty fingers.
"And that's it." He held up his paw.
"If they really wanted to make these things representative of what most sentient beings feel, you'd think there be a ring for apathy. Powered by a lack of f--" a ring went whistling right by his face with a high-pitched sound but zipped on past him "--to give."
