It was a damned good thing Rich had the presence of mind to tell him not to thrash, because that was Sam's instinctual reaction to just about anything, really. He relaxed and tried to catch his breath as Rich steered them back around.

Okay, maybe he'd have a better time catching his breath once he got the water out of the way. It took him a couple minutes to respond, alternating between coughing and taking in deep breaths until he felt like he had himself under control. Mostly.
