Kubo followed the melody with a growing smile. So much of the music he heard these days was so far from anything he'd ever heard back home, and it was fascinating, the whole new worlds of song that came with having found himself in this future.
He waited until Barry's performance was over to pull out his shamisen, fingers flying across the strings as he committed riffs of the song he'd just heard to muscle memory. They were already committed to regular memory from on his first run-through of the song, but Kubo would have liked to have listened to the song one more time before attempting a full run through what would become his shamisen cover.
"You're a pretty great singer," he complimented. "Can you help me find a song on the machine to play along to? I learned this one the other day."
He played a few notes of what was unmistakably, even on the shamisen, "Carry On My Wayward Son."
