[MOD PLOT] Get Down, Madame President!
Who| Everyone who signed up
What| UP Council Rescue
Where| On Earth, during the field trip
When| At the end of the day during the Earth field trip
Warnings/Notes| Violence and whatnot
The first volleys of the attack are subtle. Some hacking from their support team causes the automatic locks to lock the doors. All communications in and out of the building are also suddenly cut off. It's right when everyone starts to panic that the attack starts.
The two terrorists put themselves in the middle of the UP Council hall and drop their disguise holograms. One is wearing a power suit that's red and the other is wearing one that's blue.
Concentric rings of red and blue energy start radiating out from the two meta-powered terrorists, their power suits controlling and channeling it. The blasts are concussive, damaging pylons and potted plants and the many floating platforms the delegates stand on.
The first waves hit the hardest, knocking everyone off their feet.
"You can call me Proton and this is my brother, Neutron," cries out the one in blue. "Down with Robotica! Down with the United Planets!"
"This is for Xanthu, you traitors to organic life!"
"For Xanthu!"

Just setting the scene (don't tag to this)
"And it looks like the doors are locked," calls out the other, pointing to where panicked people are rushing the doors, trying to get out.
"Ah, sprock," says Timber Wolf, climbing to his feet. He sees the other Legionnaires across the hall, in between the fleeing, panicked people. "Legion! We need to protect the delegates, get those doors open, and take these nassheads down!"
He turns to President Wazzo, who's holding his son, Cub.
"What are you waiting for? Get Cub and yerself to that fancy panic room of yours!" he cries out, and then turns back to face Proton and Neutron.
Unfortunately, it's right then that Proton directs his attention at the UP President. Timber Wolf's enhanced reflexes are the only thing that prevents a tragedy. He sees Proton raise his fists to fire off energy bolts at the president -- and his son, in her arms -- and screams. It's an inarticulate scream, a roar, the kind of noise a wild animal makes when they realize one of their young is in danger. He's much too far away to attack someone with blasting powers like Proton when he's all the way across the hall -- and too far for any of the other Legionnaires to help him.
All he can do is get in the way. His body intercepts the blast and it knocks him end over end so that he bounces several times until he slides to a stop, unmoving, his body still smoking.
no subject
The two villains are attacked by the Science Police right then, giving the president a breather. They won't last long against them, though. The president directs her bodyguard at Timber Wolf.
"He's still alive, ma'am."
"Then grab him! We need to get him to my panic room," she says.
The two of them grab him and start carrying him.
"Idiot," she says furiously to the unconscious Legionnaire. "You just have to keep doing things to make me reconsider despising you."
"Move, Madame President, move!"
With the only experienced Legionnaire down and out, the other Legionnaires are now on their own.
Team 1 - Proton - Hal Jordan, Spider-Gwen, and Gohan
"Did you really think you could betray organic life and get away with it?! You supported Robotica after they killed millions of us! If you want to stand with genocidal murderers you deserve to die with them!"
The delegates and guests are sitting ducks in a shooting gallery if Proton isn't stopped.

(Hopefully, these people can look beyond the indignity of being yanked up like tuna in a net if it's going to save their lives, but Hal wouldn't put that past a bunch of politicians, frankly.)
"Keep him busy!" he yells to the other Legionnaires. The element of surprise worked well once, but moving that many people at once is going to be tough to keep up, if Proton keeps his attention on them enough to start tracking fire. "I've got the door."
He hasn't got the door yet, but he's sure he can come up with something.
no subject
As such, Hal's yell was immediately met by an energy blast being shot at Proton's helmet. Not strong enough to damage it, given its energy resistance, but certainly strong enough to draw the man's attention away from the crowd. Gohan floated in the air, open palm aimed at Proton. Saiyaman costume on full display, but the usual theatrics taking a back seat in the face of an actual serious situation.
"I don't know what you think you're doing here," Gohan started, generating another energy blast, but not firing just yet. "But it stops now."
no subject
This would've been a fine moment for her Spider Sense to have gone off. If she still had it. But she didn't, so she was just gonna have to work around that. On the plus side, she had a few other Legionaires with her, so they could at least work to bring this guy down. On the negative side, they weren't alone. Hopefully the green guy and his net would be enough, leaving her and guy with the non-threatening helmet to deal with the walking lava lamp.
Sticking to the ceiling, Gwen fired several short bursts of webbing at his helmet. Wouldn't be able to shoot if he couldn't see. And if he couldn't see, it'd be easy for her to drop in for a solid punch and kick.
no subject
Then, before he had time to really get back on balance, the webbing caught him by surprise.
"How can you protect these traitors to organic life?" he cried out, blasting around wildly because he couldn't see. "They've allied themselves with a species that killed millions of innocent people! Xanthu deserves vengeance!"
no subject
As though other species in that hall hadn't. As though some people in that hall hadn't, possessed or no. (Not that Hal was going to argue that point with anyone who wasn't already aware of it.)
"Vengeance isn't justice, Shake n' Bake." Hal lowered the crowd to the ground, eyes still on Proton - the door he could probably take care of without having to look at it too hard, but if Proton got himself together enough for another wave, he'd have to move fast to keep everyone out of it.
no subject
Boy, what a time for a super villain to pop up.
"I'm gonna try and slow him down!" He called out, energy gathering in his hands. If energy blasts was all he had to work with, then he was going to make it count. As such, he began to fire energy blasts one after the other, hoping the pressure would at least chip away at whatever defenses Proton had.
At the very least, it'd keep Proton distracted enough for whoever was on the ceiling to get the drop on him.
no subject
Though really, her own plan had essentially turned into "hit him on the head really head." But okay, cool. It was a solid plan, pretty much worked every time. Now about that part where they're supposed to hit him on the head really hard. Hey, when in doubt? Just punch again and again until something happened.
So she did, once she had an opening between all the blasting going on.
Gwen figured that the see-through portions of the helmet would be easier to break into.
Good job, Team 1! You can thread a little of the aftermath if you like
"They aren't innocents! They didn't even censure the Roboticans!" Proton cried out, still shooting wildly and trying to get the sticky webbing off his helmet.
Gohan's assault started to quickly overwhelm him. While they had to fight against the force of his explosive rings, the constant blasts meant that some of them broke through and caused at least some damage to the suit, making it harder for him to properly regulate and direct his power.
"You don't understand what our people went through! You don't see the machines for what they are --"
Gohan's attacks also left Proton plenty distracted while Gwen went in for the KO.
Her punches broke the helmet and then? Then it was lights out. Proton went down like a sack of bricks, unconscious.
no subject
"Seriously? At least look like you're trying."
Granted, he didn't know exactly what Gwen was capable of, and he knew a lot of them probably hit a lot harder than the average person, but still. One punch? Come on, that was just disappointing.
A chain of green light faded into view around Proton, binding his arms behind his back. No sense in taking chances.
Team 2 - Neutron - Marinette, Thad, and Saralegui
"Quickly! We must lead him away from the crowd!" the Robotican Ambassador calls out.
These Roboticans are among those most dedicated to peace and providing reparations to the peoples that were heart by machine life before they were freed from the rogue AI Computo's control -- and even now they're trying to help others by leading Neutron away.
Despite formerly being combat mechs, they're now avowed pacifists, highly unwilling to fight back. If someone doesn't defend them they're almostly certainly done for and a huge blow will be struck against Robotica's peaceful interaction with the rest of the galaxy.

But she did bring the yoyo Brainiac 5 had made her. It didn't do everything her yoyo from back home did because it wasn't magical but it still could be used to swing from things -- and that was what she needed right now. She was going to have to get to that thing from overhead, but she needed a distraction. Maybe if Chat Noir --
Except Chat wasn't here. Even Adrien, who was using Chat's name, wasn't here. She was going to have to get use to working with these strangers. Two of the others were near her -- one of them was the boy she'd met earlier.
"We need to get his attention," she said, yoyo in hand, throwing her purse to the ground in a way that was something closer to throwing down a gauntlet. "I think I can get to him from overhead of you keep him busy," she said to Thad. "And then hopefully I can break his helmet and knock him out."
A pause.
"I think."
But she was a little doubtful. She wasn't sure she'd get that many shots in. This would be a much better plan if she could make sure whatever blow she got in from above would take him out in one go.

Fortunately, he wasn't alone, a pair of the other recent arrivals paused nearby. The black-haired girl he only remembered from the party, and a boy he hadn't spoken to before. He had only the faintest idea of their capabilities and even less of these men currently blasting the room apart.
Ugh, he hated going into things so blindly. But there didn't seem to be a choice in this matter.
"If you can break his helmet, then I can stop him," he chimed in. For someone hiding behind a toppled bench for cover, he sounded awfully certain.
no subject
When the other member (who he wasn't familiar with yet) offered that he would be able to take Neutron down, he didn't bother to question how he would be able to stop him (perhaps Marinette already knew), or why he would need the helmet broken first. Hopefully, they would find out soon enough, and between the three of them they had a more complete plan then he'd had on his own.
"I should be able to do that. I'll try to dismantle some of the suit if I can." Only some of it. If he'd still had control over his molecular vibrations, disarming the suit completely would have been simple, but without it, he would have to be more creative with how he tore it apart. "Maybe that will weaken it some and make it easier for you two to get close."
With that, he took off in a blur of motion and green lighting, moving slow enough to be seen (despite the fact that it would make him an easier target) and rushed in-between Neutron and the Robotican delegates to try and cut him off and get his attention. Circling once just outside the cut-off of the energy pulses, he waits for the gap between pulsations before attempting to rush him.
no subject
"Don't think for a second that I'll hold back!" he cried out. "If you choose to defend these monsters, you deserve to die with them!"
Fortunately, his anger at having someone dare get in his way was enough to distract him and he turned his attention on Thad.

Jumping and kicking off of a pylon to get some height, she used her yoyo to swing up into the rafters.
"Psst!" she hissed at the cowering delegates to make them look up, and then she vigorously pointed at a door to a nearby room where they could take refuge. They rushed towards it, quietly slipping inside.
Ladybug then swung from rafter to rafter, careful to move quickly and quietly so Neutron didn't look up and see her. Before long, she was poised almost overtop Neutron.
From there she signaled Saralegui to get into position. There were pylons that were closer to Neutron that he could take refuge behind while they did this, and then he'd be ready to pop out and do...whatever he was going to do.
I hope he knows what he's doing because we probably only have one shot at this...
Unfortunately, she didn't have time to ask.

For his part, Saralegui remained crouched behind his bench, suddenly feeling a bit pathetic in comparison. It was a short-lived feeling, one he was quick to mentally smother with the reminder that he didn't need such talents. But still, it certainly hammered in that sense of uselessness, stuck hidden for safety while others went to face these threats head on.
Catching sight of Marinette's gesturing, he set his jaw and made a move towards the pylons she indicated--
--only to duck right back behind the bench for cover as one of those concussive blasts pulsed out. The bench rocked back heavily under the force of it, jarring the shoulder Saralegui had set against it, but mercifully held together. With a soft curse, he peeked out over the top of it to count the seconds between the pulses, ducking back down at the next one.
He really didn't fancy taking one of those blasts directly, and he didn't like his chances of reaching closer cover in time. Watching the others dodge it all so elegantly, that feeling of inadequacy bubbled up again, tight in his throat, and he had to force it back down with the cool rationale that there was no time for such sulking here. He'd just have to figure something else out.
no subject
Okay, getting in close enough to tear at his suit wasn't going to happen, but maybe if he built up enough speed he could get a hold of one of his outstretched arms before the oncoming blast could hit him. Even if he could only take out Neutron's ability to aim his blasts that would give them some advantage.
More important than that though, was trying to get him further from the fleeing civilians and in a better place for Marinette to get a shot at him.
Briefly, he focused on merely directing Neutron's focused shots at him while trying to get him to follow him closer to where Marinette sat up in the rafters, but when he'd built up enough speed and saw his next opening he took it. Rushing him again, this time he attempted to grab ahold of the armor on his arm and break it off using shear velocity (and unfortunately, he didn't particularly caring if he instead ended up breaking his arm or yanking him behind him if he did manage to get a hold of him) before he could get hit by the next wave.
no subject
That left him only one arm capable of firing off blasts, because he needed the armor to focus his powers.
And he opted to focus those powers entirely on Thad, trying to blast him with blasts from that remaining hand, which meant that Marinette...
no subject
She was silent as she dropped down, using her yoyo to successfully bash Neutron's helmet to pieces. His face was left bleeding afterward and he cried out in pain, something that made Marinette wince.
Back home, she didn't have to hurt the villains as much, because while they caused harm, they usually weren't causing harm as deadly as this.
She hoped that this would do the trick, that Saralegui would be able to put Neutron down so that she didn't have to hurt him anymore than she had. Another explosive ring started to expand out from Neutron, making it so that she had to jump and flip over it -- which brought her dangerously close to the terrorist, something he took advantage of by turning and aiming a wrist shot at her.
She kicked his outstretched arm so that the blast went wide, harmlessly hitting some indoor plants. While she'd tried to guide his hand with the amount of force she used, her luck power no doubt helped make sure the blast didn't hit anything.
"Missed!"
Another ring expanded outward and she flipped over it once more.
"And missed again! You're not very good at this, are you."
Only briefly landing after that last flip, she bounced up and kicked off Neutron's shoulder to escape, the kick temporarily knocking him off balance. While still in the air, she swung her yoyo up to swing off into the rafters once more.
"One broken helmet, as promised!"
She purposefully didn't look at Saralegui as she said it, not wanting to give away his position. Hopefully Neutron would think she was talking to Thad instead so that he didn't know what to expect next.
no subject
"Hey!" he hissed, risking a wave to get Thad's attention. With any luck, Neutron would be a bit distracted by the broken glass in his face and rage at Marinette. "A little help?"
He'd been hoping the pulses would falter with the other two keeping the terrorist busy. But apparently, the guy was great at multitasking. So time for a new plan to get in close.
no subject
Catching the sudden movement of Saralegui's hand out of the corner of his eye, Thad instead zipped over to duck back behind the bench with him.
"How close do you need to be?" He questioned, setting down the chunk of armor he'd ripped off Neutron and offering a hand for Saralegui to take, assuming that getting close was the issue.
no subject
"Eye contact," he said. Foregoing explanations for the moment -- there would be time later, if it became necessary at all -- he just slipped his glasses off with his free hand. Those were deftly hooked over his collar where, with any luck, they'd be safe for a few minutes.
no subject
Within a half second, he'd taken off from behind the bit of makeshift cover, leaping over the oncoming wave of energy as he came in at Neutron from the side with the arm he'd take out, getting Saralegui just close enough to make eye contact.
no subject
All too soon, the terrorist was before them, and it took him a second to catch up. It was a tense second, just enough time for Neutron to refocus on them and move his working arm towards them--
--and then Saralegui's eyes were all aglow, a powerful command in Neutron's own mind telling him to stop.
It was so easy this time, a proper sentient brain to dominate and overwhelm. Nothing like the struggle of the Lux's inhuman minds or the iron wall of Yuuri's will. Saralegui let out a breath, quietly relieved by the familiarity of it.
"We're done," he announced simply, attempting to slip out of Thad's grip back to the ground.
no subject
Taking advantage of him freezing up, some Science Police officers rushed in, putting a power restraint collar around his neck and affixing a device to the armor to power down any potential weapons it had on its own. They cuffed his hands behind his back.
It was over.
no subject
"That was a much easier than I thought it would be." One of the many benefits of not having to figure out what item had the akuma in it and having to break it. "All I had to do was just...paf!"
Bonk! For once, all it took was a good bonk! That was nice.
She watched Neutron as he was carted away, struggling, screaming something about his family -- and how there was nothing left that they could take away from him.
It made her brows furrow.
"It's still so sad, though," she said softly. "They have a good reason to be angry and in pain, even if the way they chose to deal with it was evil. Can you imagine losing what the Xanthans have lost? Friends and family members, their world -- almost everything they knew. It's not an excuse, but I doubt this is the last we've seen of people like this. With so many of them hurt that badly, there must be even more of them that feel like they have nothing left to lose."
After the battle
He definitely looked worse for wear, the front of his shirt was all charred and nearly burned away and he could barely stay on his feet.
When he saw that there were no dead civilians on the floor and that Proton and Neutron were already in custody, he grinned.
"Well, I'll be sprocked. You did that all on your own, didn't you. Brings a tear to my eye," he joked. "You rookies are just growin' up too fast."
He leaned against one of the pylons.
"Sorry you had to solo it. Pretty sure I had to regrow some organs. Didn't regain consciousness til' a few minutes ago."
no subject
"There were at least six of us left to deal with them," Saralegui pointed out dryly, brushing the dust from one of the damaged pylons off his tunic. "I don't think anyone really went solo."
Perhaps his sense of humor was just a bit shot from the stress of the situation. Or perhaps that was his medieval literalness shining through. Hard to say. After a moment's pause, he peered at Timber Wolf curiously and just as ambiguously, adding, "Can you really regrow organs?"

A lot of it wasn't as new as it could be, even aside from that. The tech was better these days, sure, and the politics were a lot different, but superheroing? Fine. Superheroing in space? Been there, done that. The no-kill rule wasn't really hard to get used to, either, given that it was only quite recently that the Green Lantern Corps had repealed their own and authorized lethal force - and honestly, in some ways Hal preferred having that rule to keep them in check anyway.
"Do you need a chair?"
Because he could do chairs.

He leaned his head back against the pylon.
"And the floor's good. Just need to take a breather."
