THE SPIES WHO SPROCKED US - modplot

What| The Espionage Mission Against the Council
Where| Brainiac 3's abandoned asteroid base.

Warnings/Notes| Potential gore, due to the plan to fake a betrayal. Also potential mind-borkery, due to the Herald involved. (Think similar to telepathy or empath powers).

The abandoned base of Brainiac 5's grandfather, Brainiac 3, is simultaneously perfect for a secret meeting and perfect for an attack. Built into the asteroid itself, it had labyrinthian tunnels, extensive computer monitoring systems, and countless security measures. And a faked radiation spill means very few would risk going to it.
But all the things the Council-members and the Herald are using to guard the meetup can be used against them as well. The tunnels, ducts, shady rafters, and countless levels provide ample opportunity for hiding, sneaking and bypassing certain areas to avoid getting caught. The security systems -- everything from alarms to wall-mounted stun blasters, to capture droids -- can be hacked and exploited, either by the hackers among them, or by security bypass devices similar to the ones that were used during the heist on Rimbor. Even when these devices fail for whatever reason, such as security code shifts and updates, the hackers can gain new security codes and bypasses and send them to their compatriots.
The most dangerous part of this mission is the use of the Nysheef, Harrubian ninjas that have been lent to the UP Council-members as security from the pissed off Harrubian elite that were arrested by the Legion. Juuust on the off chance that the Legion might come snooping around. But with the right amount of stealth and subterfuge, the Legionnaires can take out the Nysheef without raising the alarm, and there are plenty of places to stuff their unconscious bodies.
Brainiac 5 went all out to make sure that the Legionnaires are well equipped for this mission. Before it started, they had access to a tech armory that let them get their hands on a wide variety useful tech, such as: security bypass devices, mini-computers for the hackers, stun weapons, smoke bombs with stun gas that can knock out most sentients for hours, hard-light holographic projectors that can cast illusions over an area or disguise an individual (which can scan new things to create new disguises), stasis field devices, personal cloaking devices, high-tech anti-grav climbing gear, recording drones, grappling hooks...
Basically, if the Legionnaires needed it for the job, they got it. As usual, they also have their flight rings, omnicoms (which have useful scanners), and transuits.
A sensor sweep indicates that the Herald and the six Council-members are meeting in a particular central chamber -- with an addition two unexpected life signs -- but with the team's plans, powers, and equipment, it's Mission: Highly Probable instead of Mission: Impossible.
And the Council will never see them coming. (Which is kind of the point, really.)

Then snap goes the trap and that's when shit seems to pitch sideways. A flurry of movement and crackling power as the 'dead' leap up, shots are fired and it pitches him right fucking back to the war and the trenches and the bone deep certainty that the only way to survive means murdering anything that moves-
No, that's panic. That's pragmatism. This is hotter, less focused, less logical and it fucking staggers York for all of two point three five seconds as Delta gets HIS head out of the sudden wave of whatever the hell it is and locks down. They'd been twisted up and used once before. Not again. Rage was unfamiliar to Delta, belonged to his brother, a cooler kind of anger is what he held. Not this desire for blood and bone and murder. Too much like the Silent Horizon, like the faceless, and it makes it almost easy to reach in and flip the switch that shuts off that particular swell of emotion for York.
They can argue about the ethics of that later.
Off goes the nuke, in goes Reaper, and bright goes the first thing York snagged near him that wasn't a person. Some kind of debris that takes a charge like a dream. Reaper's got one- York? Can cover Wash till he gets some distance. "Watch your eyes!"
Disable and disorient. Flashbang, ho! York hurls the charged debris at the Daxamite nearest Wash, nudging luck just enough in their mutual favor to ensure his teammate doesn't get hit.

He's left completely vulnerable, for Wash and York to clean up shop.
Tela closed her eyes in time and was farther away, so she's merely distracted by it and by her clearly affected partner -- and that means she's not looking out for Reaper.
"You filthy little primitives!" she yells.

Blame York's luck power and move on. He stops himself and vaults to his feet, taking half a second to assess the situation - York at a distance, Reaper closing in on the further Daxamite - before he drops low and sweeps the legs out from under the Daxamite closest to him, barely waiting for impact before he draws his pistol and fires two rounds into the Daxamite's face.
Stun rounds. Into the tear on the transuit. They might need Parker to help keep him powerless later, but for now, this one shouldn't be getting back up.

In a flurry of smoke, Reaper avoids being blinded as he swoops around from the back, his trajectory undisturbed and in even better luck as the other Daxamite is distracted. He tries to redirect his anger, that burning need to kill, towards something that'll help him succeed in his mission. With barely restrained force, he draws his shotguns to attack.
Without even thinking, he raises it to the back of her head. Her peripherals only catch it a second too late, and even though it wouldn't have been a kill shot (considering Daxamites and all), the intent is there. His less dominant shooting hand has to physically alter the route of the bullet, knocking at his gun to lower it, before snarling and letting loose a flurry of shots. Non-fatal rounds, he peppers them into her back. Once the other Daxamite goes down, they'll be able to easily take care of this one.

They're inorganic.
He charges the material with a flicker of will and thought, D running calculations as to how much would disarm and disable rather than dismember and calling out the appropriate time to ollie out and shove him in Tela's direction before the timed charge crackles and explodes in a film of concussive force both outward and inward.

And now they have two downed, thoroughly unconscious Daxamites on their hands, ready to hand over to the Science Police. Mission accomplished.
