RESISTANCE IS FUTILE - [modplot/log catchall]
Who| Everyone who signed up
What| "Resistance is Futile" plot catchall
Where| All over the place, but mostly Colu
When| After the network briefings and deployment.
Warnings/Notes| cw: zombies, body transformation (probably). If your subthread has something triggery pop up, put it in a subject of the one of the comments.

The entire planet Colu is a sprawling urban mess, one of the worst environments to fight zombies. Yes, the cities are clean and impressive and yes they're meticulously planned, but they're planned for elegance, efficiency, and ease of transportation -- not defense. While Colu had suffered under the yoke of various oppressors in the past, that was over a millenia ago, and they've grown complacent, thinking their world untouchable due to their technological superiority.
Now they're paying for it. Robo-zombies swarm through the various mega-cities, spreading their disease by touching or wounding their prey. Due to the many walkways, hover-lift tubes, maintenance tunnels, and sewer systems, there seems to be no way of stopping them.
When the Legion first arrives, it seems hopeless. The Coluan Home Defense Forces aren't used to combat and are struggling to set up defensive zones. But then something unexpected happens.
Pods drop in all over Colu from orbit. The CHDF regard them with suspicion and disdain, but they have their orders, and the civilians regard them with fear, despite word starting to spread about who's come to help.
Kid Q's voice comes over the comms and while it's hard to hear it through the crackling, she sounds absolutely delighted.
"Look alive, folks, we just got a miracle. It took some negotiating with the CHDF, but they finally relented on accepting some help from others beyond us."
The pods all burst open and Robotican combat mechs start rolling and marching out, spreading out over all of Colu.
"The Roboticans haven't been able to translate it to a cure because the virus was meant to interact with them differently than organics, but due to their disaster preparedness, they were able to develop a block to the Brainiacs' virus and only suffered a few casualties. Robotican leadership says they're eager to have their chance to make reparations to organics by defending them from this threat -- and that they're honored to stand with the Legion."
It's not a magic fix. It'll still be a deadly struggle. But at least they've got more than the inexperienced CHDF at their backs.
"Let's make the most of it, Legionnaires."
[ooc: This will be used as a plot catchall, but you can make your own log posts in Legion Missions set in the plot if you like. All major plot parts on Colu will be set up here, with "The Reject Pile" part set in the Legion World comm (with an accompanying network post). That said, if you'd like to set individual plot threads on Legion World, you can also start your own Legion World posts in

Wow. This one was... not handling the stress well. To put it lightly. The last time she saw a smile like that, it was on a woman she'd sent in for psychiatric observation. Unfortunately, that's not a huge option here. Very unfortunate, given that she's apparently in control of a large dinosaur ghost.
Fantastic.
"The Directosaur, right? Citizen Denning?" That's what she'd heard the boy, Scott, call her at least. America reaches out gently to take her by the elbow, motioning to an area just around the corner. Not too far from the refugees, had to keep half an ear on them, but she'd need a little privacy. She snaps her fingers at the Coluan quartet, and their handcuffed host, and snarls "Stay."
This was why you couldn't have civilians in these situations. They fell apart. Nothing to blame them for. Claire lacked America's training and even she was feeling twitchier than normal, given the similarities between this and... other events. Hopefully the woman just needed a bit of time to compose herself. America didn't have anything else to offer her beyond words and a few minutes, unfortunately.
She'd have to fill a report to Kid Quantum recommending a full psychiatric checkup after this.

"The Director; Rexy is the dinosaur, not me. I am Claire Dearing." Of all the things to be upset about now, she knew this was pretty superfluous but it was easier focusing on that than invading robo-zombies and trying to save everyone she could. At the very least, she didn't have any family running wild in the streets.
She lets America take her elbow and direct her into a more seclude corner, following up America's order to the Coluans with her own pointed jab at Rexy. "That means you too!"
She's still surprised that Rexy is minding her as well as she is; Owen had been the real dino-whisperer.

America guides her to a slightly quiet spot, just around the corner, and simply stands silently for a moment. Examining her carefully, looking for any signs of shock or injury.
When she speaks again, her tone is calmer, more concerned. Like she's talking to a spooked animal. "Is this too much for you, Dearing?" Another Judge, Rico, might come down on her like a hammer, despising weakness or hoping shock will snap her out of this. But America's seen this before. She just needs to know if Claire can be coaxed out of it or sent to safety now before she snapped and someone got killed pulling her out of the fire. "If you need a rest, a break, or just to pull out for now, I'll understand. I can send you with the other citizens. They don't need to know the truth, we can just tell them that you're going with them for their protection. You can take a break and maybe help with the refugee organization on the other side of things. Would that be better for you right now?"

"No, no ... this is fine. I'm not used to - this sort of thing, but I'm not a stranger to it." It's the first time she's opened up at all about the tragedies that happened just before her arrival, and she reaches up to brush a few wayward strands of hair aside. The idea of escorting the civilians back and assisting on that side of things was tempting - she couldn't deny that - but Rexy was more help here with how many robo zombies she could crunch in one bite, or sweep away with a low rock of her head, or kick, or smack with her massive tail. No, they came as a matched set and in this moment Rexy was more help here than Claire would be on the other side.
"Thank you for the offer, America, but I think Rexy and I are more use here. I just, needed a reminder." She offers the other woman a faint smile; she'd be okay. She was in the past.

Just to pull herself together a bit more. Make sure this wasn't a false front for America's benefit. She said she'd gone through this before, but without details, America wasn't sure how severe those events could possibly be. It didn't look like Claire was used to a life of hardship. But even silk could hide steel.
She glances back at the group waiting on the next transport. They still had a bit of time. "I'll go for another sweep. I hope I'll see you out there soon."
