It's no surprise that the team trying to free the Lost Legionnaires once and for all and trying to get the Miracle Machine is largely comprised of native Legionnaires. For one, they miss their friends, and two, they fully expect an attack by Chronoblivion's forces. Since a large part of this mission involves recovering people most of the team has never met, they've decided that it isn't right for the displacee Legionnaires to bear the brunt of the risk.
Still, they need more firepower, so several displacee Legionnaires have been tasked to come along. Wash, Danny, and Locus have been brought along with Kid Quantum, Brainiac 5, Bouncing Boy, Ferro, Gates, Umbra, Timber Wolf, Dreamer, Invisible Kid, Cosmic Boy, and Matter-Eater Lad.
Their destination? Where it all began: Phelolu.
It's easy to forget that Phelolu once held civilized life. Before the fight with Mon-starr, the living star, the Legion was able to successfully evac the planet, but the wreckage of some of the cities remains, as they slowly degrade and turn to dust in Phelolu's endless dark and cold.
Despite the extensive destruction, the only causalities they faced were the lost Legionnaires that disappeared due to the sabotage of Brainy's device by a Bill-Cipher-possessed Invisible Kid. But the skeletons of buildings long destroyed are still eerie enough, especially when the only light is from glowing, floating blobs of energy Kid Q has used to light the area, and from the dull light of radiation in Phelolu's atmosphere.
The only reason they can withstand the elemental forces in play are because of special prototype transuits reinforced with technology that imitates Brainiac 5's own shield technology, but they only have about an hour of time before the special transuits break down in the face of Phelolu's toxic gases, bitter cold, radiation, and other dangerous energies.
Fortunately, Brainy knows how to work fast, and as he sets up his equipment, Legionnaires have been poised in different places on watch.
"Locus, Freelancer, Ghost Boy, I've got several other Legionnaires posted on watch around our perimeter, but I want you to stay as hidden as possible. If we do get ambushed, I want to throw our attackers a few surprises. And while our enemy has had some time to study your powers and fighting styles, they've had a lot longer to study those of us from this world. You've got a much better chance of throwing them something they're not expecting."
