THE LEMURIAN ADVENTURE

Who| Open to all!
What| The underwater city of Lemuria is flooding!
Where| Lemuria!
When| The same time as Heist of the Century and just after the beginning of Bodies For Rent
Warnings/Notes| This is a natural disaster, so things might get hinky and intense.

When the Legionnaires drop in, the first thing that hits is the sound. Like the cables of a suspension bridge snapping, but drawn out endlessly rather than ending swiftly. It’s enough to set anyone’s nerves on edge.

Their briefing explained it. The reactors that powered the main shield suffered a disastrous cascade failure, and the engineers who went to fix it have failed to check in. Then, despite this being a tectonically stable region, an earthquake wreaked havoc in the dome. It’s a scientific impossibility, without metahuman or scientific interference. They need to get everyone to the T-Gate stations and connected to the refugee centers, but the population is panicking and there are some riots as the disasters and the public announcement of sabotage raised questions of who’s trustworthy and who’s part of it.

There’s been a request for anyone with technical training or even rescue training to go to the tunnels and rescue the engineers, as well.

Whatever the case, it’s obvious that the city doesn’t have much time. The main field has already collapsed and the secondary shields are screaming in protest under the billions of tons of pressure. With the faint sound of an explosion, they blink out and there’s a hammering noise as the ocean slams into the transpariplates that make up the main city dome. Silence reigns for a second, the faint sound of cracking material obviously a figment of their imaginations… right?

DISASTER THREATS

A. EARTHQUAKES

Somewhere in the city, there’s a seismic generator. It’s not exactly subtle, the surrounding area will slowly turn into a volcano, drawing up earth and venting magma around as it works its magic to wreck the city. The vibrations it causes are strong enough that being close enough will rattle the Legionnaire’s teeth. The Legionnaires have to find it and stop it, or destroy it, before it can do any further, but it’s not unprotected.

And that’s not saying that there’s only one. They might run into a gang of saboteurs setting up another one, just in case the first is settled in. If two get activated in this close a proximity, any other efforts they put forth might as well be for nothing.

B. COLLAPSING BUILDINGS

None of the structures in Lemuria have been built to withstand earthquakes, nor have the people been taught how to handle them. The first quake damaged many buildings, and now they’re threatening to collapse with any further interference. Some already have. It’s up to the Legionnaires to search the rubble for survivors or pull people out of the buildings before something worse happens.

C. FLOODING

The transpariplates of the domes and their connecting tunnels are cracking. Water is pouring in through the cracks, and some of the smaller domes have already seen their smaller buildings submerged. People will be trapped, either in structures or on top of them, and the rapidly rising water level is making an evacuation extremely dangerous. Fortunately, this is one disaster they had something set in store for, with rafts and artificial gills being in ready supply, but the stores have been raided and what should be plenty for all has turned into barely enough for some.

The Legionnaires can focus on sealing the cracks with their powers or a provided sealant, or pulling people out of submerged buildings and vehicles or from the tops of their buildings and to a T-Gate nexus.

D. LOOTING AND PANIC

Never let a matter of life and death get in the way of a good riot. Some citizens have taken it upon themselves to spend their last minutes on a witch hunt, tracking down anyone they suspect of being a saboteur and holding impromptu kangaroo courts. Others have taken the chance to throw chairs through windows and claim whatever they find inside. Yet others have taken to stampeding in the streets, clogging the proper evacuation routes in their rush to get out. And, finally, some ill-meaning citizens have taken the anarchy as an excuse to do whatever they want.

While the first directive of the Legion in this situation is the preservation of life rather than protecting material goods, there’s no reason to let criminals run amuck. Whether it’s calming crowds or slugging looters, there’s something the heroes can do to help the situation.

E. FIRES

A fire in an underwater city. How ironic. But, whether it’s due to rioters or the seismic generators, portions of the city are ablaze. The Legion might choose to ignore putting the blaze out, considering the incoming water will likely extinguish them, but there are still people inside the buildings that need to be rescued.

F. REACTOR REPAIRS

The geothermal reactors that need to be fixed are in underground tunnels, something that at least makes them nice and dry. The heat, however, is another thing entirely, and the trans suits aren’t famous for their air conditioning capabilities. Only one reactor needs to be repaired to power the main field just enough to keep the domes from breaking any further, but they’re complex enough that anyone who isn’t an engineering specialist might end up needing to get instructions from specialists in the Legion World monitor room to fix the damage.

The saboteurs haven’t left, however. They’re too professional for that. Any attempt to repair the reactors will end up attracting the attention of these hired guns and they’ll swiftly move in to assault anyone attempting to undo their hard work.

G. WILD CARD!

You can make up any situation you want if it doesn’t fit the above scenarios, as long as it fits the theme of the event. Wild animals, rogue robots, whatever you like. If you're unsure on something, feel free to ask the mods! Otherwise, you can do just about anything under this.

Good instincts, because she was about to lean down and attempt to help him up. As it is, she clenches her fists out of frustration of not being able to do more. She steps to the doorway to look out, checking on the survivors (who are disappearing down the evac routes, at least; that's a relief.

Turning back, intending on helping Roadhog regardless in the sake of time (an eye for an eye; didn't he just 'assist' her out of the previous room?) when there's a low rumble, felt more than heard, and then a sharp crack as part of the building's foundation gives way. The floor pitches violently to the left, support beams breaking in half and tumbling into the room. Out of instinct Fareeha reaches up to grab one and hold it aloft - but being out of power for the moment and having already exerted herself earlier, her legs buckle under her. With a warning yell towards Roadhog, she disappears in a pile of wood and plaster.

Roadhog has yet to climb to his feet when the world starts rocking, and an urgent attempt to stand and close ranks fails with a wobble and a boot catching on a sunken block of stone. He still isn't on his feet when he recovers from the stumble, starting to lurch again on all fours through the dusty white air toward the fading shout.

At least it saves him the trouble of needing to bend down before he can rip the fractured support beam off the top of the heap, which falls to the side with a thud that explodes in his ears, and he continues to dig, splintered boards ricocheting off what's yet to come down on top of them as he flings them away with increasingly less care.

Mako couldn't tell where the rubble ended and Fareeha began.

At this point, she blends in with the rubble; covered in the dusty gray powder and mud as the water began to rise. But, she is there and in one piece (outwardly, at least) as Roadhog will eventually find.

However, she is knocked cold and unresponsive for the time being, scraped and bruised with a trickle of blood trailing down her cheek. At the very least, she's still alive.

Her body is pulled from the splinter-filled river of slop and shifted up into the crook of an arm nearly wide enough to be a stretcher, though the indelicacy of the whole process would have made a paramedic shudder. If moving her quickly meant a gimp back, so be it. A broken loved one was better than a dead one, at any rate; Junkrat would get used to it, and Roadhog would bask in the continued peace of not having an utterly inconsolable partner.

In the end, it never would have mattered how careful he was anydamnway. Past the final cock-eyed set of double-doors and a block down the road, she's still shaking with every step. His gait was naturally tumultuous, even when there weren't obstacles to be stepped over or kicked out of the way every few feet. Another fifty along the evac route and he finally hears the building fall. That, or any one of a dozen others in his hind-view. Mako doesn't bother looking back, or stop to help anyone else. The only item on his list right now was to find a place to set her down, suss what kind of shape she was in and how godawful the next conversation with Rat was going to be.

Following the flashing lights marking the nearest T-Gate eventually brings him through a plaza that's mostly still level and dry, with nothing towering above it except the cracking dome itself. In the center there was a large fountain, and while the spigots along the upper tiers were no longer flowing, plenty of fresh water still sat in the basin. Roadhog kneels and lays Fareeha out beside the dead fixture, beginning to spoon ice-cold water over to the hidden source of the blood, though it wouldn't take much more than a handful to soak her entire head. A little at a time, he lets it trickle down, first washing away the red streak on her face, then re-wetting her hair and brushing it aside so he can see just how badly she's been brained.

The cool water helps drag Fareeha back to consciousness, and she grunts in pain as she opens her eyes and turns to look at Roadhog. Her lunges are on fire, every breath is pure agony. She's not even sure how she wound up this way; details were fuzzy and hard to grasp. Her head was pounding. Nothing seemed to be clear.

"Roadhog? What, happened?" Let's start with the obvious.

Her cut is, thankfully, mostly on the superficial side; long, but not deep or wide. The surrounding skin has started to bloom with blue and purple bruising.

A field dressing for that would be overkill, even if he had the supplies. Roadhog settles on rinsing the area, but once her eyes flicker open and she's back forming a coherent sentence, his movements nonetheless untense a notch.

"Cave in," Roadhog answers simply, dumping more water over the caked, dried mud matted along the sides of her suit, in search of anything that might tell him where and how else she's been injured. Though, now that she's awake maybe she can point him in the right direction.

"You got caught in the skull." He pauses a moment, reading the discomfort on her face. "Feels worse than it looks, probably."

Nothing to freak out over just yet.

"I'm fine. I'm fine. Just give me a moment."

She fully intends on getting up, as soon as she can take half a breath. "We've got to keep going, there are still people out there ..." The words come out half-formed and breathy, and it's far more likely that she'll slip back into unconsciousness than rise up for a second try.

She'd be welcome to try it; that would be one way of quickly singling out any broken bones.

"Still legionnaires out there too," he counters, though there's not much growl to it. His tone is altogether different than his awful snapping from before; it's carefully measured and calm, almost as if this isn't the first time he's had to deal with a wounded charge trying to deliriously stick to their guns. "It's taken care of."

One issue she still struggles with is the idea that she needs to ever take it easy. Part of her catches the change in his tone, and it's added fire to her desire to press forward.

She puts a hand out to his shoulder, half in an attempt to stop him from stopping her, but also for balance, as she starts to lift off of the fountain's edge. She'd started to snap a retort back, but as she moves and the muscles flex around a bruised rib, she erupts in a new wave of pain and chokes back a yelp, falling back against the edge. Her grip on Roadhog tightens involuntarily before she drops altogether. She takes a few small, shallow breaths as she tries to remain conscious.

"Okay ... point ... taken."
