TO HAVE AND TO HOLD [modplot]
Who| Anyone who wants in
What| "To Have and to Hold" plot
Where| The planet Olum, Matihara Temple
When| Set vaguely the same time as "Gods Among Us" and "Other Mother"
Warnings/Notes| N/A
The planet Olum is a genuinely welcoming place. While the clothes they have to wear for the rituals are a bit...odd (provided they don't opt for coverups), they are comfortable, especially with such a balmy climate. Despite the Olumites allowing outsiders into their ceremonies, there's a distinct lack of tourist-ey elements; no gift shops, no merchants selling anything, just a spirit of genuine unity and celebration. The Olumite marriage guides seem to genuinely care about helping people with their relationships, and seem happy to share their cultural traditions with other species.
As far as missions go, it's definitely a nice vacation from the usual life or death struggles.
It means the Legionnaires have no distractions. They have to settle in and try to navigate this while faking sincerity as best as they can.

He's never actually thought about Robbie as someone who was 'hot' before, but...
That's actually not something he should be thinking about at the moment, either.
He raises an eyebrow at the question. "What does Discworld have to do with Orions on Star Trek?"
no subject
He'd be more insufferable in his response, but the look throws him. It's as if Vance is basing the appraisal on the hologram. All he can up with it is very dark humor (the body paint would hide the scars nicely), and Robbie would prefer to not open up a can of worms, thanks.
"Yeah, you've never read it. 's okay - I still think you're cool." Robbie is quite pleased to have one up on Vance. "It doesn't have anything to do with the Orions, I guess, but we were talking about slaves. There's sort of a slow slave-to-freedom arc for golems in the Discworld series."
Almost to himself, he adds, "Man, it's really start to bum me out, how hard it is to pull off a good reference here."
no subject
The look actually doesn't have to do with the hologram. Vance is perfectly capable of using the image of Robbie in his own head, scars and all. (Even if he knows he doesn't know about all of Robbie's scars.)
Still, he snorts and half smiles at Robbie. "Okay. I may have to read them." It wasn't how golems were supposed to work in Judaism, but secular ideas of golems were far more prevalent now, anyway. He could put aside the things he knew for that. "Now, whether I can find them here or not is a different story."
no subject
Robbie thinks about Vance reading the Pratchett novels. On one hand, it would be nice to have something that expansive available for winking references. But... "No, don't. If you don't read it, I can still call you Captain Carrot with no repurcussions."
no subject
And, yes, she was hella hot. Sue him.
Vance raises an eyebrow, then chuckles. "All right, all right." Which isn't to say that he won't actually read the books. And now knows a character to keep a look out for. "I suppose we should actually start looking for this stuff we're out here to get."
no subject
But she had been right. Robbie wonders if she'd known what his community service would be or if it mattered. It didn't. He shrugs at Vance's comment. Yes, she's one of the hot ones, but Robbie isn't concerned about what She-Hulk thinks about him saying she's hot.
"I... forget what we're looking for. Fossil Pokemon that may or may not be glowing, teamwork and shelter, also the secret to marital bliss?"
no subject
Yes. He knew a little bit about Pokemon.
"Pretty sure the teamwork and shelter things are going to happen, though the marital bliss is optional."
no subject
Besides, it could just be part of the challenging course. Robbie doubts that, however. This is supposed to be safe enough for an average sentient being.
He snorts a little at the tail end of Vance's assessment. "Ha, trick question. Marital bliss is a myth."
no subject
Well. Rich's mother was fine. And his brother. Vance still had issues with Mr. Rider.
"On the other hand, at least we know what not to do."

The face he's making could double as the face he'd make if he got a mouthful of asparagus when he was expecting chocolate and couldn't spit it out politely. Robbie has told himself since he was a kid that he wouldn't be like his parents and do marriage for the wrong reasons, yet here he is. Even if it's fake by consent, he still feels like he's messed up.
"Apparently, I don't," he mutters, because Robbie's mouth has no off switch. He really can't complain more than that, because the Baldwins were paradise compared to the Astroviks. Then, more loudly, he says, "Which way do we go?"
no subject
He glances over to Robbie, then turns back to the comm and turns with it. "Looks like it's to our right. And forward, because of course it's forward."
