IN BRIGHTEST DAY - Mod Plot [LOG POST | 1 | THE RINGS CHOOSE]

Who| Everyone participating in the plot
What| Finding the lost Lanterns and getting Lantern rings
Where| The remains of the sentient, once-living planet Mogo, at the edge of the galaxy
When| After the network post
Warnings/Notes| N/A for now.

Their little adventure took them to the edge of the galaxy. Towards the end, they couldn't even use the threshold gates anymore, due to star-weights and gravity wells crushing and constructing the way there. Instead, they had to rely on the stargate abilities of their ringwielding allies.

Their journey ended in a strange and beautiful nebula at the very edge of the galaxy, one that had swirling gases in blue and green and violet and indigo. There, they found a dead, broken planet, the remains of the being once named Mogo, with four ancient structures.

The Green Lantern Central Power Battery. The Central Power Battery of the Star Sapphires -- the violet Lanterns. The Blue Lantern Central Power Battery. The Indigo Tribe Central Power Battery.

And in piles and piles around these ancient sources of power...were rings. Countless rings in all four colors. All without owners.

"Who dares disturb the resting site of the Green Lantern Corps?" an ominous voice said from the shadows after they landed.

"We come in peace," called out Kid Quantum. "Several groups of ringwielders were pulled against their will into this universe from a time and place when the War of Light was still ongoing. Some of those ringwielders were from the red and yellow Lantern Corps. Those who wear rings of green, violet, blue, and indigo, want to stop them from reigniting the war in this universe. They want to capture the red and yellow Lanterns and take them back home to their universe and time."

"And who are you?" the man asked.

"Kid Quantum, of the Legion of Superheroes. The Legion protects the people of this galaxy, the citizens of the United Planets, and we offered our aid to these displaced Lanterns. We heard that remnants of the Corps that were allied against the Red and Yellow Lanterns possibly existed on the edges of the galaxy. We've come seeking your help."

"It does my heart glad to learn of you," the voice said slowly. "We wondered if anyone else had ever risen up to take our place. But we had to stay here, to guard the last remnants, to watch over the Power Batteries and the rings. To make sure they were never used again. With the various Corps gone, anyone seeking them would only have wanted to misuse them."

The man stepped out of the shadows and now he glowed with the light of his green ring.

"I am Sodam Yat." He gestured to two other glowing figures that joined him. One was just a teeny speck of light, as if the being was normally too small to be seen by the naked eye. This was because the Lantern was a benevolent, superintelligent smallpox virus. The other was a battered robot that used his ring's energy in replacement of some of his parts.

"This is Leezle Pon." The speck. "And Stel." The robot. "We're the last of the Green Lanterns."

He looked at the Lanterns the Legion had traveled with and was clearly overcome with emotion at seeing faces that were, for him, 1000 years gone.

"I never dreamed that this could happen." He inclined his head at them all. "It's wonderful to be able to welcome you home."

Aizawa wasn't hurting anyone, so Parker really didn't care that he looked like a caterpillar. It just seemed like an appropriate observation to make aloud, since he was talking about dignity. For all she knew, caterpillars were dignified creatures back where he was from and that had been his goal all along.

She shrugged in answer to his question. "Why would I be concerned? It's just skin. Everyone has it. I know other people find it weird, but I don't understand why. Creepy people will be creepy regardless of what I'm wearing, so I select clothing for its practical properties." She gestured at her bodysuit. "Which is why mine is mostly black. It'll be harder to see me."

There was a distinct, obvious pause as Aizawa took Parker at her word. No matter where he went, people never really spoke like that. Everyone was concerned about decency, appearances and good behavior. Over-exposed outfits, for heroes, were gaudy and unprofessional. No one was meant to be an idol or a sex-star, so everyone preferred more conservative looks that covered as much skin as possible.

Aizwa had been more on the side of pragmatism. Whatever worked, worked.

"I didn't think I'd meet someone with a practical mindset so soon," He mused, looking back aside to the lightshow of swirling rings around the others who were still making their choices. "Clothing certainly does matter in close confrontations. It can't be too constricting or too loose. You need good footing, good grip and a reasonable amount of space to conceal whatever tools you need."

"Yeah, I learned that pretty young," Parker agreed with a nod of her head. "Though I don't think we're going to be slipping away into any crowds, so some of what I know doesn't apply. Still, impractical has too many moving parts, it's better just to keep it simple."

Parker flexed her fingers and a set of glowing blue lock picks appeared before her.

"Though I guess with these rings, carrying the tools you might need isn't very hard."

"I'm not a frontline fighter," He frowned, evaluating the ease and accuracy in what Parker had done with her ring. It was unthinkable to him that it could have been that easy--to imagine a precisely constructed object such as a lockpick being made at a glance. Subconscious calculation was one thing, but one's imagination had to have blocks. He figured he would reply on simple shapes, instead. His strength of mind came from rationality and basic physics were his bread and butter in his work.

"I'll admit that the tool itself is extremely versatile but what good is a lockpick if it glows that brightly? I'd rather keep my non-powered tools on hand, just in case."

That said, he did consider what Parker said. It would be hard to keep himself from direct confrontations constantly.

That was why he wanted more contingency plans.

"A glowing lockpick is a lockpick you don't have to shine a flashlight on," Parker countered, expecting hers closely. They weren't quite right, but they shaped themselves to her exacting standards under her narrowed eyes.

"It's not like I'm picking locks in a dark room in front of regular people I'm trying to hide it from. You've got to know your tools well enough to trust them because you carrying capacity is always limited. Unless that's your super power. As well as weight and mass alteration. And you didn't have to dig through the infinite space to find what you were looking for."

"Admittedly, I'm not an experienced thief--so, I'll take your word for it," He lied, albeit gently. He would admit there was practicality to total darkness and practicality to light but there was no sense in giving away the fact that he was a shady sort of hero to begin with. There were heroes with great big powers that showed themselves off in fights and then there was Eraserhead--someone who loathed fame because it ruined his element of surprise.

"Though, I'm more of a minimalist, myself. Simple tools, simple approaches. Anything beyond that becomes troublesome for me."

Hence why his costume, a nightmare incarnate, had been such a problem. The glowing sleeping bag he had donned tightened a bit to become more snug.

"I'm a very experienced thief, so my word is good," Parker said in a matter-of-fact tone, her lock picks vanishing as though they'd never been at all. It never even occurred to her that someone else might be cagey about where they picked up the knowledge and skills. She was a thief, she'd been a thief since before she'd hit double-digits, she was going to be a thief until the day she died, and she was very, very good at it.

"There's definitely no point in making it more complicated than it needs to be, I'll agree with that," she said. "The details around it might be complicated, but the plan itself should be simple."

[personal profile] ex_eraserhead411 2016-08-20 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
Eraserhead didn't look particularly surprised. Either Parker was an experienced locksmith or a thief. Not many people casually remembered the precise angles of lockpicks to make them from memory alone. A few people bought sets just in case they lost their keys but who in the world would remember them that easily?

He offered her a shrug--barely perceptible through the false fabric of his sleeping bag.

"In that capacity, I worry we aren't two people best suited for this sort of mission."

[personal profile] leverageintceo 2016-08-30 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
"What, because these guys are going to make it more complicated than it needs to be?" Parker asked, waving her hand at the people around them. "That's why we're suited to be here. They're going to need us to keep them from getting their butts kicked when they trip over themselves."

[personal profile] ex_eraserhead411 2016-09-07 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
"We shouldn't have to be doing that much," He complained, knowing full well he had that conversation with a number of other heroes before big missions, before. Aizawa didn't cooperate well with some groups, deigning it incredibly irrational to work with people who couldn't listen to orders or adapt.

His failure rate for students was something of a stigma to U.A. With every right to expel students for whatever reason he saw fit, Aizawa was hardly forgiving when it came to his judgements.

"Ah, well. It's fortunate that I'm not in charge."

"Yes, but if we didn't work with them and their lack of discipline, then we'd eventually have to do everything ourselves, and that's inefficient," Parker said with a shrug. "Kid Quantum seems to know what she's doing in regards to keeping them in line, so we should only have to perform minimal butt-saving in the end."
