IN BRIGHTEST DAY - Mod Plot [LOG POST | 1 | THE RINGS CHOOSE]
Who| Everyone participating in the plot
What| Finding the lost Lanterns and getting Lantern rings
Where| The remains of the sentient, once-living planet Mogo, at the edge of the galaxy
When| After the network post
Warnings/Notes| N/A for now.
Their little adventure took them to the edge of the galaxy. Towards the end, they couldn't even use the threshold gates anymore, due to star-weights and gravity wells crushing and constructing the way there. Instead, they had to rely on the stargate abilities of their ringwielding allies.
Their journey ended in a strange and beautiful nebula at the very edge of the galaxy, one that had swirling gases in blue and green and violet and indigo. There, they found a dead, broken planet, the remains of the being once named Mogo, with four ancient structures.
The Green Lantern Central Power Battery. The Central Power Battery of the Star Sapphires -- the violet Lanterns. The Blue Lantern Central Power Battery. The Indigo Tribe Central Power Battery.
And in piles and piles around these ancient sources of power...were rings. Countless rings in all four colors. All without owners.
"Who dares disturb the resting site of the Green Lantern Corps?" an ominous voice said from the shadows after they landed.
"We come in peace," called out Kid Quantum. "Several groups of ringwielders were pulled against their will into this universe from a time and place when the War of Light was still ongoing. Some of those ringwielders were from the red and yellow Lantern Corps. Those who wear rings of green, violet, blue, and indigo, want to stop them from reigniting the war in this universe. They want to capture the red and yellow Lanterns and take them back home to their universe and time."
"And who are you?" the man asked.
"Kid Quantum, of the Legion of Superheroes. The Legion protects the people of this galaxy, the citizens of the United Planets, and we offered our aid to these displaced Lanterns. We heard that remnants of the Corps that were allied against the Red and Yellow Lanterns possibly existed on the edges of the galaxy. We've come seeking your help."
"It does my heart glad to learn of you," the voice said slowly. "We wondered if anyone else had ever risen up to take our place. But we had to stay here, to guard the last remnants, to watch over the Power Batteries and the rings. To make sure they were never used again. With the various Corps gone, anyone seeking them would only have wanted to misuse them."
The man stepped out of the shadows and now he glowed with the light of his green ring.
"I am Sodam Yat." He gestured to two other glowing figures that joined him. One was just a teeny speck of light, as if the being was normally too small to be seen by the naked eye. This was because the Lantern was a benevolent, superintelligent smallpox virus. The other was a battered robot that used his ring's energy in replacement of some of his parts.
"This is Leezle Pon." The speck. "And Stel." The robot. "We're the last of the Green Lanterns."
He looked at the Lanterns the Legion had traveled with and was clearly overcome with emotion at seeing faces that were, for him, 1000 years gone.
"I never dreamed that this could happen." He inclined his head at them all. "It's wonderful to be able to welcome you home."

"I never dreamed that this could happen." He inclined his head at them all. "It's wonderful to be able to welcome you home."
Questions for Kid Q
After getting the information she needed, Kid Q went, in turn, to pass it along to her people.
"Sodam Yat and his people agreed to help us and let us all have access to the rings. The Power Batteries are barely running, but the Lanterns think they can reignite them and get them running at full power. That'll let them all be able to recharge their rings in this universe."
She raised her eyebrows.
"That also means that we might be able to use some of these power rings," she said, nudging some of them with her foot. "They can't go far because we're too far out on the edges of the galaxy, and for some of the Corps, they lost the mechanisms that let the rings seek out new owners, but because we're right here, that means they might choose us. And apparently the ring chooses the wielder, not the other way around."
That was the way they'd explained it.
"If that happens, we'll still be able to use our powers alongside them, so it's definitely something we should take advantage of. Apparently, the rings will give us a protective aura against the rings of the yellows and reds, something stronger than our transuits. Some of the rings even have abilities like draining the power of the yellow rings. The various Corps also offered to give us some basic training before we go hunt for the reds and yellows."
That was the most important info.
"Before we get down to tactical accessorizing, does anyone have any questions?"
The Rings Choose
Then the rings all came to life: blue, green, violet, and indigo, they glowed and started swirling around the Legionnaires. For some of them, only one ring zeroed in on them. For others, a few rings vied for attention around them. No one could simply choose what ring they wanted -- the ring had to be attracted to them first -- but for those that had multiple rings zero in on them, they could perhaps choose which of those rings they ultimately went with.
An unlucky few would find that no rings were attracted to them at all.
[ooc: The way this will work is each character will post to this subthread with the characters' experience of having rings zipping around them and note in their post which color ring their character is going to have. Then the mods will comment with the ring accepting them to its respective Corps and what effects the ring will have on them. After the rings choose the characters, players can comment to each other's subthreads so the characters can react together.]

For a moment, a green and blue ring darted around him, both of them seemingly competing for his attention. He wasn't sure if he was supposed to just reach out and grab one, or let one of them actually commit.
Finally, after waiting longer than he felt was reasonable, he said, "Hey, come on, you two. One of you needs to make up your damn mind. We ain't got all day."
The green ring finally flew in and landed on his finger.

All of those that were accepted as Green Lanterns felt power surging through them the moment they received their rings. The power of the green rings was steady and true -- and one that altered the minds of its wielders the least.
Like all of those accepted into the Green Lantern Corps, his costume changed so that it had green and black and white on it, with the symbol of the Green Lanterns emblazoned somewhere on his person. And like all of those accepted into the Corps, he'd find that he had the ability to change said costume.

Re: The Rings Choose
Love for his world and its people. Hope that one day it would be free of the curse hanging over it. Compassion for those in need.
For this, the violet, blue, and indigo rings seemed to briefly pause to consider choosing Alexander. But they quickly moved on to more suitable candidates, as it was not love, hope, or compassion that truly drove him.
For him, it was will that drove him on, ironclad and absolute. The will to fight, time and again. The will to retain his humanity, even after centuries alone. The will to walk the path to let the fire fade, even though he knew not what kind of age it would usher in.
The green ring didn't seem to need more than a moment's deliberation before choosing, quickly landing on his finger.
"Very well then," he said, addressing the ring directly. "I humbly accept your decision."
He was quite used to wearing rings of great power, but none with a mind of their own. It was strange, to say the least.

He didn't know which ring would choose him. In the end, he supposed it didn't really matter--what did matter was being able to help, and to do that, they would need to use these rings. Simple enough.
A green ring approached him first, darting close as if it wanted to choose him. But it eventually seemed to decide that wasn't the best course of action, and left.
It was a blue ring that came next, and there was no hesitation from it--it landed on his finger as if it knew it always belonged there. Remembering what he'd heard on the networks before they left, maybe it did.
Hope, huh...he couldn't really say that wasn't appropriate.

[TRUNKS BRIEFS, OF EARTH. YOU HAVE THE ABILITY TO INSTILL GREAT HOPE. WELCOME TO THE BLUE LANTERN CORPS.]
The power of the blue rings was light and uplifting. While it influenced the mind to be slightly more hopeful, like the green rings, it was one of the rings that influenced the mind of the user the least.
Like all those accepted into the Blue Lantern Corps, his costume changed to be mostly blue and black, with the symbol of the Blue Lanterns emblazoned somewhere on his person. And like all of those accepted into the Corps, he'd find that he had the ability to change said costume.

Unlike the green and blue rings, the indigo ring sped towards him and slipped onto his hand without any hesitation whatsoever.

[HICCUP HORRENDOUS HADDOCK III, OF EARTH. YOU HAVE THE ABILITY TO FEEL GREAT COMPASSION. WELCOME TO THE INDIGO TRIBE.]
The indigo light had a way of warping the mind slightly, drawing a person into being even more influenced by their sense of compassion. For those with little compassion, it was strong enough to change their entire nature. It also filled the user's mind with the strange language the Indigo Tribe used, to use alongside their own native language.
Along with the ring and the new language, each member of the Indigo Tribe also received a staff that allowed them to redirect ring energy, one that was round at the top, with a hole that projected indigo light.
Like all those accepted into the Indigo Tribe, his costume changed to be mostly indigo, with the symbol of the Indigo Tribe emblazoned somewhere on his person. It also changed to be sliiightly more revealing. Most of the Indigo Tribe wore loinclothes as part of their uniforms. Fortunately, like all of those accepted into the Corps, he'd find that he had the ability to change said costume.

And then a violet joined the green, and Sam blinked. Violet?
Willpower had always been there, for Sam. It kept him going when his life turned upside-down, kept him going past every setback in his search for his father, kept him in the fight when the Hulk went on a rampage through his hometown. But stubborn as Sam was, there was something else that kept him going, that made his will to hang in there stronger.
Love for his family. The loss of his father.
That was what the violet ring was zeroing in on, and that was what led it to dart in and land on his finger before the green had a chance.

Re: The Rings Choose
A blue ring and a violet ring seemed the most serious about sizing her up. Love was a thing she'd only recently realized that she needed, and that she hadn't had enough of as a child. There was definitely something there for the ring to work with, the ways she was weird and different from most people, the way she missed her team -- missed Hardison and Eliot, whose names she'd kept so close to her heart here that no one in the Legion had even heard them.
But the blue, that was the one that approached her. With Nate and Sophie retired, she was the leader and mastermind of a band of thieves who stole justice and peace of mind back for people who didn't have any other recourse. When hope was lost, she brought it back, generally with a hefty cash bonus too.
When she extended her hand out to the blue ring, it fit her finger.

Indigo and violet slipped past him in streaks, as if he wasn't even an option. Truth be told, he probably didn't want to see what he looked like in one of the Star Sapphire outfits.
It was blue and green that came for him, spiraling around one another like a pair of siblings trying to reach him first. It almost made him wish he could choose both, but he reached out for the green as it looped around to cut off the blue from reaching him first. "Sorry, little guy. But I need to fight."
It felt almost like pushing an eager puppy away. He couldn't deny that what he did as a Ranger was important, but he wouldn't have been able to be that symbol of hope if he couldn't fight in the first place. And since Blue Lanterns couldn't make the constructs... Well. At least Green had gone for him as well.

He was so focused on everybody else that he got surprised by the two -- no, three -- that decided to have an aerial display around him. Green, blue and indigo whirled around him, like some complicated dance as...they tried to decide which one would get him? Vance wasn't too sure if that was anthropomorphizing them too much, but given that they were parts of the spectrum of emotion, it didn't feel wrong, either.
Finally, though, the blue and indigo flew away as the green ring found his finger.

And sure enough, there it was, a green ring zipping around like it was just begging for his attention.
"Kinda thought blue was more my color, but hey, I'll take it."
He held out a hand, more than willing to accept. It wouldn't make up for the powers he lost, but he sure as hell wasn't going to say no.

He wasn't thinking terribly hard about the color choice, though, because he was far more interested in how these things worked. The explanations made it sound like the rings were supposed to be tech, but the whole mystical energy of the emotional spectrum nonsense made it sound a bit more like it was supposed to be magic, and he was getting a little better at reconciling those two with each other, but he still really wanted to take a ring apart and see what was going on under the hood -
The indigo ring landed on his finger.

He believed that rationality was important. Rationality kept heroes in line and made certain they knew their flaws and strengths alike. Nothing could be done to help others if rationality was discarded. For that reason, he spoke up simply after imagining which ring suited him best.
All Might would be suited for a blue ring. A great number of heroes would work perfectly in the green spectrum. Plenty more would be suitable for would work among the violet spectrum, as well. He didn't lack love, but he understood it didn't fit his motivations in relying on rationality. He utilized his fear rather than overcoming it. The only hope he inspired was from within the shadows. Instead--
"Compassion comes from the heart. One's heart and mind are interwoven concepts. If that's the case, then it's Indigo," Indigo won out in the end, landing on Aizawa's ring finger in the next instant. He had raised his hand in anticipation, giving a shrug. "It made the most sense."

However, he'd been so distracted by the overall display, that he hadn't noticed the rings edging closer to him until they were right in front of him. All four of them giving him a fly-by, before a green ring and a blue ring remained in front of him.
"O-Oh! Um..." Gohan stared at the two rings, scratching the back of his neck. He wasn't sure if he was supposed to actually pick one, or just wait for one of them to come to him. He could definitely feel himself drawn to them though, and the feeling was very similar to when he first laid eyes on the Z-Sword back home.
Ultimately though, he couldn't help but place his open hand underneath the green ring, and watch it drop into the palm of his hand.
"... Did I do that right?"

And yet, here he was! Not only in the far flung future, but in some alien planet searching for cosmic power rings! It was like something straight out of a sci-fi show, something absolutely fantastical, but in no way realistic.
But here he was!
"Ah, if only Winston were here, he would certainly appreciate this...!" Reinhardt couldn't help but chime in out loud, slinging his hammer over his shoulder as he watched the display of colors above him. Spotting a few colors seemingly edging around him, as if deciding whether he was fitting for them... before a blue ring seemingly barreled through the rest, and immediately hovered before his face.
It made the old man holler in laughter.
"Well, aren't you energetic!" He said, holding his hand out for the ring to fall in to. "It seems the choice is obvious then, my friend! Welcome!"

But willpower? He had that in spades. And he'd overcome great fear more times in his first summer at Gravity Falls than most people had to overcome in their whole lives.
Dipper wasn't surprised at all when a green ring flew onto his finger.
