Out With the Old [modplot]

Who| Everyone who signed up
What| The rescue of the NPC Legionnaires
Where| A movie studio in New New York
When| Takes place the same time as "Books of Magic"
Warnings/Notes| N/a

The studio where the Legionnaires are being held is swarming with supervillains. It's a trap, of course. But that doesn't mean they have to walk right into it. They have a plan, and now it's time to put it into action.

The Legion of Supervillains are expecting the non-native Legionnaires to be pushovers. They're about to discover just how crushingly, devastatingly wrong they are.

A day of uncomfortable reunions

Connie's been trying to stay behind the scenes as much as possible. It's bad enough that there's effectively an armour double of her on the enemy's side and she'd really rather not take on any friendly fire from the confusion. Her objectives are simple; get in a server room or comms room and mess with anything that looks like it'll hamper the broadcast or any restraints on the captured Legionnaires and hostages, and be a good distraction for anyone who needs it. Right now she's focusing on the former.

Or at least, she had been right up until she'd slipped into a power generator room and found an all too familiar armoured soldier already in there. She stops dead in her tracks as an uncomfortable cold shoots right down her spine. Question is, who's side is Texas on? If this goes poorly, Connie's more than ready to run.

"Agent Texas."

If the armor wasn't unmistakable, the voice definitely is. She's heard that phrase said in that exact tone before. She glances over at the speaker; that's Connie, all right, and she's wearing a Legion symbol on her armor. Well, that solves the problem of knowing what side she's on. And from what she's seen of this place so far, there's no need to question how Connie could be here in the first place. There's more than one dead person running around.

So after that glance, she doesn't waver. "Agent Connecticut," she says. "I hope you don't intend to interrupt me. I'm here to take out the power suppressor for the Legion."

Okay...Connie's in no place to confirm what Tex is saying is true but not getting attacked is a good sign. Unless it's a trap but- Tex was usually pretty straight forward with those. Usually more explosive and destructive, too.

"We're working towards the same goal, then," she replies, still keeping a wary eye on Texas as she moves to one of the control panels to get to work. No reason why they can't get as much information out of the place before they blow it.

"Looks like we are," she says. She makes no further indication that she intends to shoot out the panels, instead holstering her weapon on her back after a significant pause. There's a hesitation, yes, because she knows what happened the last time they saw one another. There's uneasiness in the way Connie's looking at her, glancing her way, and Tex doesn't want to spark anything that would be unhelpful at this moment. So she approaches the space beside where Connie's standing. She understands what Connie's getting at doing, and so she leaves her to it, waiting. This isn't much like her, but she feels she sort of owes this to Connie, to wait it out and see.

Even with most of her attention on the control panel to say this is uncomfortable is putting things lightly. The silence on top of everything else is unnerving. Once she's copied the information she starts flagging the protocols and programs in place for Cortana to properly muck up.

"Just so we're clear, there's an idiot on the enemy's side wearing my armour too. Got more white on him and he's missing the sticker but I'd really rather not get shot in the back by you again over a misunderstanding."

Is she bitter? Absolutely. With her work done she steps back from the panel and draws her magnum to shoot it out and leave it flickering out in a shower of sparks.

She bristles a little at that—she hadn't shot her in the back when she had killed her—but Connie remembers that happening, by the way she's acting. "I can tell the difference between you and an impostor," she says, less hotly than she intended to at first. There's so much to say, so much to explain, and it's completely the wrong time to do it in. She pulls her pistol out, looks at the door. "How about I guard the door, and you can finish the work in here?"

"Like I said, just wanted to be clear."

It's a figure of speech, Tex is smart enough to figure that out. Connie moves to the second panel, giving a silent nod to Tex's offer as she starts in on the next set of code. The hum of the power generator stutters a moment before it powers off altogether- drawing the sound of some harsh shouts from down the corridors. Lifting her gun again she shots a few rounds into control panel to keep them from bringing it back online but it looks like they're going to have company.

Indeed, it is a figure of speech, but one that lends itself to all-too-literal outcomes. But none of that is possible to argue out right now. Tex hears the shouts coming down the hall and positions herself to peek along the edge of the door. "They're coming," she says, "right this way." She levels her weapon to fire.

Connie takes up position on the opposite side of the door, glancing down the hallway.

"Better give them something to waste their attacks on."

And a beat later a projection of Connie's armour flickers into view in the hallway and runs into the middle of the path, appearing to be fleeing from the room after completing its objective. It's similar to the projection her armour enhancement produces but there's obviously a lot more control with this one. Either way, it'll be a good distraction to give Tex the upper hand.

The distraction works just as it's intended to, and Tex realizes right away that it's just a decoy. This means she can fire her weapon unimpeded down the hallway, and she does just that, taking out a couple of attackers who waste their time trying to fight it.

As soon as the first flurry of bullets hit the projection it flickers out of sight, giving Tex a perfect view of the shocked faces of the goons right before they go down. Texas is precise and effective as always, and- oh, that reminds her.

"I hope those were stun rounds."

Tex doesn't lower her weapon, watching the hallway for more interlopers. "I did pay attention when I took the oath," she says. The whole thing cramps her style, but on the other hand, she's taken enough innocent lives over the years. Not that their opponents are likely to be innocent, but it's better to err on that side of things, she supposes—for now, anyway.

"Just making sure."

Now that there's a moment of calm she can better hear the pained groans coming from down the hall. They won't be getting up to chase either of them any time soon. Whether or not Connie and Tex happen to depart in the same direction is another matter, too.

"Where are you headed now?"
a_shadow: (This is what I do)

[personal profile] a_shadow 2017-03-12 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
"The direction those goons were coming from," Tex says decisively. "There have to be others over there." She holsters her weapon. "Did you find the power suppressor? I don't know what's what back here."
