THE LEMURIAN ADVENTURE

Who| Open to all!
What| The underwater city of Lemuria is flooding!
Where| Lemuria!
When| The same time as Heist of the Century and just after the beginning of Bodies For Rent
Warnings/Notes| This is a natural disaster, so things might get hinky and intense.

When the Legionnaires drop in, the first thing that hits is the sound. Like the cables of a suspension bridge snapping, but drawn out endlessly rather than ending swiftly. It’s enough to set anyone’s nerves on edge.

Their briefing explained it. The reactors that powered the main shield suffered a disastrous cascade failure, and the engineers who went to fix it have failed to check in. Then, despite this being a tectonically stable region, an earthquake wreaked havoc in the dome. It’s a scientific impossibility, without metahuman or scientific interference. They need to get everyone to the T-Gate stations and connected to the refugee centers, but the population is panicking and there are some riots as the disasters and the public announcement of sabotage raised questions of who’s trustworthy and who’s part of it.

There’s been a request for anyone with technical training or even rescue training to go to the tunnels and rescue the engineers, as well.

Whatever the case, it’s obvious that the city doesn’t have much time. The main field has already collapsed and the secondary shields are screaming in protest under the billions of tons of pressure. With the faint sound of an explosion, they blink out and there’s a hammering noise as the ocean slams into the transpariplates that make up the main city dome. Silence reigns for a second, the faint sound of cracking material obviously a figment of their imaginations… right?

DISASTER THREATS

A. EARTHQUAKES

Somewhere in the city, there’s a seismic generator. It’s not exactly subtle, the surrounding area will slowly turn into a volcano, drawing up earth and venting magma around as it works its magic to wreck the city. The vibrations it causes are strong enough that being close enough will rattle the Legionnaire’s teeth. The Legionnaires have to find it and stop it, or destroy it, before it can do any further, but it’s not unprotected.

And that’s not saying that there’s only one. They might run into a gang of saboteurs setting up another one, just in case the first is settled in. If two get activated in this close a proximity, any other efforts they put forth might as well be for nothing.

B. COLLAPSING BUILDINGS

None of the structures in Lemuria have been built to withstand earthquakes, nor have the people been taught how to handle them. The first quake damaged many buildings, and now they’re threatening to collapse with any further interference. Some already have. It’s up to the Legionnaires to search the rubble for survivors or pull people out of the buildings before something worse happens.

C. FLOODING

The transpariplates of the domes and their connecting tunnels are cracking. Water is pouring in through the cracks, and some of the smaller domes have already seen their smaller buildings submerged. People will be trapped, either in structures or on top of them, and the rapidly rising water level is making an evacuation extremely dangerous. Fortunately, this is one disaster they had something set in store for, with rafts and artificial gills being in ready supply, but the stores have been raided and what should be plenty for all has turned into barely enough for some.

The Legionnaires can focus on sealing the cracks with their powers or a provided sealant, or pulling people out of submerged buildings and vehicles or from the tops of their buildings and to a T-Gate nexus.

D. LOOTING AND PANIC

Never let a matter of life and death get in the way of a good riot. Some citizens have taken it upon themselves to spend their last minutes on a witch hunt, tracking down anyone they suspect of being a saboteur and holding impromptu kangaroo courts. Others have taken the chance to throw chairs through windows and claim whatever they find inside. Yet others have taken to stampeding in the streets, clogging the proper evacuation routes in their rush to get out. And, finally, some ill-meaning citizens have taken the anarchy as an excuse to do whatever they want.

While the first directive of the Legion in this situation is the preservation of life rather than protecting material goods, there’s no reason to let criminals run amuck. Whether it’s calming crowds or slugging looters, there’s something the heroes can do to help the situation.

E. FIRES

A fire in an underwater city. How ironic. But, whether it’s due to rioters or the seismic generators, portions of the city are ablaze. The Legion might choose to ignore putting the blaze out, considering the incoming water will likely extinguish them, but there are still people inside the buildings that need to be rescued.

F. REACTOR REPAIRS

The geothermal reactors that need to be fixed are in underground tunnels, something that at least makes them nice and dry. The heat, however, is another thing entirely, and the trans suits aren’t famous for their air conditioning capabilities. Only one reactor needs to be repaired to power the main field just enough to keep the domes from breaking any further, but they’re complex enough that anyone who isn’t an engineering specialist might end up needing to get instructions from specialists in the Legion World monitor room to fix the damage.

The saboteurs haven’t left, however. They’re too professional for that. Any attempt to repair the reactors will end up attracting the attention of these hired guns and they’ll swiftly move in to assault anyone attempting to undo their hard work.

G. WILD CARD!

You can make up any situation you want if it doesn’t fit the above scenarios, as long as it fits the theme of the event. Wild animals, rogue robots, whatever you like. If you're unsure on something, feel free to ask the mods! Otherwise, you can do just about anything under this.

Flooding

The farmspheres have been a good enough landing and staging zone, and North looks up from where he's overseeing the quick evacuation of load after load of people from a perilously creaking elevator and onto dry land pending evacuation, spotting Sawtooth fairly quickly. He's hard to mistake for anyone else.

"On it!" he calls back, parting from his partner at the station with a pat on the back and a muttered encouragement before scooping up his helmet up and donning it quickly. The seal gets a quick double-check, Theta reading his actions and reading back the all clear in the practiced back-and-forth they've rehearsed dozens if not hundreds of times.

"Any hostiles on the way?"

On one hand, Sawtooth is a bit worried about North, as in his experience, humans need to breathe. On the other hand, from what he knows about North and Theta, Theta wouldn't allow anything to happen - that's what support is for. "No - just debris at a bad angle."

"Let's see if I can't help prop that up." The suit's air supply is still holding up, but then again, North doesn't have any idea how long they're going to be out here or when he might need it in the future. Might as well not waste it on the trip down, and he takes a quick flight-augmented hop up, snaps a quick shield around himself, and then reverses his momentum and drives it into the water with a splash, heels braced solidly against the curve of the orb around him as he leans into the flight ring's help and drives it down. "After you."
