CAMPING TRIP! Third's always the worst.

Who| Everyone interested
What| A camping trip!
Where| An asteroid resort!
When|
Warnings/Notes| High impact relaxation activities

Once again, Jason's left out some possible pertinent points about the 'campsite'. When the Legionnaires step through the Threshold Gate, it's almost like stepping through to an open sky. The entire place may be inside an asteroid, but the crystals and fungus present glow with soft blues and greens, with the occasional streak of yellow where the worms gather on the walls. Almost immediately, there's a soothing feel in the air, the crystals vibrating with subtle, soothing harmonics. The artificial atmosphere is a little on the cool side, but a warm breeze is constantly circulating.

There are two distinct styles of architecture present. One is squat, built when space was a premium, all flat plain on the outside, paint jobs aside. The original mining colony didn't spend much time on frills for their administration, mining, and processing buildings. Very utilitarian. The newer buildings, however, appear to be rock and crystal shaped in a Stellaris Nouveau style, a slightly alien twist on the ancient Art Nouveau movement. The benches on the side of the slidewalks match the style, allowing one to sit and rest anywhere. Water fountains are spread liberally throughout the complex, the spray shifting into artistic, and impossible shapes.

The entire complex covers just over a hundred acres. There's a series of cliffs at the edge of the complex with large pools water at the base of each. It's hard to see the other side of the cavern after the cliffs drop off, as it was hollowed out to make room for cargo ships back in the day.

  • The main admin and security buildings in the older style. Used primarily for paperwork, security, and storage, they obviously don't get much traffic. They store equipment for upkeep, cleaning, and repairs, computers that have been locked to protect company secrets and client lists, spare furniture, environmental controls, and the wifi controls.

Fortunately, the entire facility gets Titanet access with blazing speeds, if not quite up to Legion World's standards.

Security-wise, there's a (very locked) cabinet marked 'armory', filled with two sonic rifles, a pair of arresting gel pistols, a dart gun, and two futuristic cattle prods tagged with fingerprint scanners and RFID tags to track where each piece is. There's an entire array of monitors set up near the armory cabinet, with labels for every camera. More than half of them display Legion stickers rather than the bath and spa areas.

  • The Reception Building has a large lounge and reception area. Comfortable, high-quality seats fill the rooms, the counter has crystalline keycards hanging behind it for guest rooms, and upstairs has a soundproofed arcade for children and teens. Not a single one of the games there is less than five years old, save for a few old classics tucked into a corner. Also present is a PA system and rental datapads.

The lounge has a relaxed atmosphere and a bar with a vast array of alcohol. Unfortunately, Jason's put a bit of a lock on the booze. A helpful note says that if anyone wants to get drunk, then they'll have to sing to unlock the force fields that block the booze. It has to be a different person each time, though, and they'll have to drag in more than one person to sing a duet or in a trio if they go there so often that every adult has used up their one unlock. To add insult to injury, the fields only allow each person to grab two bottles at once.

  • The Food Court is, unlike Jason's last choice, very comfortable and with a relaxing air. There are multiple robotic vendors present, as well as a standalone kitchen for when there's a live chef (who is, unfortunately, not present) each offering an array of appetizing meals that would please any tongue, from a Khund's to a Bismollan's. Still vegetarian, unfortunately, but that doesn't mean that the ice cream is any less fantastic.

However, tucked into an empty area are several stasis containers. Opening one shows meat. They all have meat. Hamburgers, some with bacon cooked into the burger, cheeseburgers, sloppy joes, ribs (dry rub or coated in BBQ sauce), barbecue chicken, fried chicken, sloppy joes, and hot dogs. They're kept in perfect stasis, meaning that when you reach in and pull one out it's as fresh (and crisp in the fried chicken's case) as if it had just been pulled off of the grill. It's all real.

  • A Crystal Maze takes up one corner of the complex, acting like a cross between a kaleidoscope and a house of mirrors. It's rather complex, but also has no ceiling in case someone just wants to fly out.

  • A Theater is present! It's used for musical concerts, stage shows, comedy acts, and even watching various movies, though anyone wanting to watch one will have to pay a fee.

  • The Spa Buildings are clustered away from the theater. Present is a gym, massage tables with a pair of robots for the actual massages (Sadly, they lack Swedish accents, leaning closer to Canadian.), wet and dry saunas, showers, and a mud bath area. A large chunk of their area is taken up by the hot springs, which are sealed off from one another. Each is shaped to appear as if it were in a natural environment and the water is a pale green. There's a men's bath, a woman's bath, and a mixed, but Jason makes it clear that only people eighteen or older should go to the mixed springs and he doesn't want to hear about it. At all.

The water is hot and soothing, filled with healthy minerals to be absorbed through the skin.

  • Multiple Communal Areas are around. Some are gazebos, others are just scatterings of furniture around a fire pit. They're all comfortable and have vidscreens for communications or to tune in to some music.

  • The Guest Rooms are built into the sides of the cliffs. Apparently there was an 'incident' with the anti-grav tubes that people used to get to and from beforehand, so those are, unfortunately, offline. Your options are to climb or use flight rings to land on the balconies that lead to each room. The balconies are large enough for a patio table and a few chairs to overlook the vast cavern and the pinpricks of light that mark the other side. Each room has total environmental controls, allowing a guest to set the room to their desires before they set foot into them for the first time.

Each room is equipped with a bathroom with a sonic shower, a minifridge with a food dispenser, and a bed. Everything else, from the style of furniture to the displays on the walls, is subject to customization. The harmonics of the crystals are strongest here, a practically audible tone, it's almost impossible not to feel relaxed. When each Legionnaire claims a room, they'll find a bouquet and a fruit basket alongside a thank you card.

Five minutes after Grif enters his room and stays there for the first time, the panels of the ceiling will open up and dozens of squeaky rubber bats will fall from the ceiling, supported by strings. Their wings flap ineffectively.

Dave's assigned room is closest to the theater, which might explain why his balcony has a box of crystals sorted into two sections. The section marked 'charged' is filled with crystals that glow, or even just have a faint twinkle in them. The 'uncharged' section is unremarkable.

If they try to explore the caverns, they'll find a complex maze of mine shafts and other holes that appear to have been created by living things. Exploring these could lead to someone being lost for hours, if not days, if they're not careful, and the deeper they go the more grinding noises they hear. Deep enough and they might find a new, gigantic tunnel network that seems more like a worm's nest, with an echo of fluttering, leathery wings carrying through them.

[[If there's something you want to do that isn't covered by the headers, just assume Jason had whatever's needed for it brought in and feel free to start your own thread!]]

Nothing like a hot soak to help with the ache of stab wounds, right? Right. Everything's healed up neatly but York still swings in either mixed or male (he's not paying enough attention to do anything but avoid the place obviously not meant for him), Delta perched on his shoulder in his little robo body. They both have towels around their waists because Delta does on occasion have a sense of humor.

York soaks and Delta settles against the ledge at his back, flicking through holographic puzzles or catalogs for bowling balls while occasionally nudging York for his opinion.

Or asks someone nearby what they think of a particular face. He's. Trying to build his own sense of visual identity. It's slow going.

"Um," Tadashi says, apparently unprepared for this question. "Well, I guess I'd say it's a trustworthy face. I assume you're not going for a 'might murder me in my sleep' kind of look, so it's probably a good one for you."

Since he's mostly submerged in water, he's actually taken off his power control gauntlet for once. It's sitting nearby in easy reach though, because he's not stupid.

"The nuances of human aesthetics are difficult." He wants it to feel right without feeling too much like The Director- without being appropriative even though in some degree this is borrowing the human experience simply to give him something with which to emote.

"But I appreciate the feedback. Thank you." He continues judging this feature in this way, in that way, York leaning his head over to peer at his progress.

"Humans will find a face in three lines if they're arranged in so much as a remotely similar pattern," Tadashi says. He nods politely at York, if a little awkwardly. They've had pretty minimal interaction up until this point, but they've both been around long enough that the standard 'hi, I'm blah' isn't going to cut it.

"I actually studied it a bit when I was designing Baymax," he adds, still mostly to Delta. "I ended up going with something simple, since I had to worry about the Uncanny Valley problem, but it looks like they've resolved it by this point."

[personal profile] goddamngrenades 2017-03-04 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think he's got something a little more human in mind- but not a bad thing to consider if you wanna go more abstract." York reaches down to rest a fingertip on top of Delta's helmet, rubbing gently. If he had hair, it'd be ruffling it. "You can look however you want, dude. You'll still be you. You can even stay like this if you want."

Rather than answer either Delta attempted the three line arrangement on a blank mask. Appropriate and honest enough, if human-centric. As he identifies with humans more than any other species it feels appropriate, albeit insufficient. "I only know for certain how I do not want to look. Like The Director- or Like York."

A beat.

"...Nor do I wish to appear as though I am constantly on fire."

"Family issues." York explains over Delta's head.

Tadashi couldn't help but laugh.

"Yeah, uh, as a guy with fire issues of his own, I'd agree that looking like you're on fire would be inadvisable," he said, running a hand through his hair.

He tilted his head back, frowning upward as he dredged through his memories for more useful information.

"Humans find symmetrical features aesthetically appealing," he said. "But our faces aren't perfectly symmetrical -- the way we see ourselves in mirrors and the way people see us from the outside are slightly different." He laughed again, shaking his head. "And this place is weird enough that I wouldn't rule out the possibility of evil mirror duplicates."
goddamngrenades: (so then we get shot)

[personal profile] goddamngrenades 2017-04-03 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"So I ought to consider applying asymmetrical faults and variations on facial features in order to avoid the 'uncanny valley'?" Delta considers this a moment before adding that note to the increasingly long list of similar thoughts he has had regarding his potential appearance.

"Don't give yourself a broken nose, trust me. That just makes people look at you funny." Crooked isn't always better either.

the_civilian: (Teasing)

[personal profile] the_civilian 2017-04-10 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Exactly," Tadashi said. "Most people probably wouldn't notice consciously, but it might weird them out unconsciously." He flashes a quick grin at York. "If you feel like having a broken nose, that's not the weirdest thing I've heard about someone choosing to do to their face."

Fareeha might not have the injuries and soreness as the others, considering she has only recently arrived, but she's still able to appreciate a rejuvenating soak in a hot spring. She's mostly found in the mixed, since her main goal here is to meet people and the best way is in mixed company, but she can also be found in the womens' bath now and again.

Like Fareeha, Seras was new to the Legion. She didn't really know anyone and wanted to get to know the people that she would be working with. She had never been to a hotspring before and it sounded like it would be a really good way to relax.

She carefully slipped into the water, a large shadow moving around the bottom of the spring for a few moments before moving back towards Seras. Aside from being incredibly pale, Seras was missing her left arm at the moment.

"Hello," she said as she sat down, the shadow now covering anything indecent under the water.

The shadow is something different, but Fareeha marks it up to a trick of the light and the crystals. She herself is in a simple blue one-piece bathing suit, but having been in the military she's no stranger to a certain lack of privacy. It's nice to be able to afford some, here.

"Hello." She smiles congenially at Seras. "Enjoying yourself, so far?"

"I am. I'm still getting used to being here, but it seems to be a nice place," she said, stretching out a bit. "I've never been to a hot spring before."

"I can't say I've had an extreme amount of experience in them myself but I wouldn't mind becoming more accustomed to it." Fareeha laughs. "Although given the nature of the conflict we've been called into, I'm not sure if I would bet on this being a regular occurrence." She lets herself sink a little further into the spring, until her head and neck is the only thing out of the water. "Figure we should take advantage of it while we can."
died_a_virgin: (I fear nothing anymore)

[personal profile] died_a_virgin 2017-03-08 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Seras nodded. Even with the conflict, this world seemed to be a rather nice one. At least there weren't Nazi vampires. That was the last thing that she wanted to deal with, but she would if she had to.

"Even if this isn't a regular thing, it's really nice. I don't think I've been out of the manor much in the past 30 years." Well, except to help rebuild what was lost. She wasn't going to just do nothing when she could help.

Of everything here, Victor is most excited about the hot springs. Spending the better part of the past year living in a Japanese hot springs resort has spoiled him and he plans to make up for the lack on Legion World now.

Living at an onsen has set his default behavior to onsen rules, so while he does stick to the men's or mixed baths, he also isn't wearing a stitch of clothing other than the folded towel balanced on his head. He's never been particularly body-shy anyway, and he's hardly unaware that a lifetime of figure skating has sculpted his body into a work of art.

Victor sinks into the water, letting out a sigh that seems to come up from his toes. His eyes slide open and he grins briefly at the person nearest him.

"I missed this."
meanmonkey: (kubo15211)

[personal profile] meanmonkey 2017-03-02 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
The person nearest him has only just slipped in, and is similarly nude, though there is a towel in easy reach and she's all but up to her chin in water. Her hair is braided up and pinned on top of her head as much as possible and still manages to be mostly in the water, but that's a risk you run with hair as long as hers.

"I haven't been to a hot spring since before Kubo was born," she admits with a faint happy sigh, her own eyes closed. "I hadn't realized how much I missed it."

[personal profile] the_real_sir_prize 2017-03-04 08:18 am (UTC)(link)
"It really is lovely, isn't it?" Victor agrees. "Yuuri's family runs a hot spring resort, back home. I have been utterly spoiled. Maybe we should see if we can convince the designers on Legion World to build something similar?"

Miku was excited as could be by the idea a hot spring. They had gone to them during a trip in high school, but she was still a bit shy and had strongly considered staying in only the female-only pools. Still, she eventually made her way into the mixed bathing, taking great care not to make eye-contact with other bathers. Her hair was pulled up and tied into a heavy-looking bun, which she carefully balanced her small towel on.

The water was nice and now that she knew she was not about to risk exposure, or catching bits she wasn't supposed to catch, Miku opened one eye. "Ah~ it's nice..."

[personal profile] wallsofjericho 2017-03-09 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Miku might have her eyes closed, but Joey's watching intently and with some concern. The area surrounding the spring isn't entirely dry, thanks to people getting in and out of the water. When he noticed that she was navigating her way into the pool blind, he worried that she'd slip.

Once she's safely in the water, Joe relaxed back into water and waited until her eye opened up before bringing his hands above the water level to sign, I'm sorry to make assumptions, but, if you're self-conscious, there are gender specific springs. He pointed in their direction and then continued. I hope you're not that uncomfortable here.

[personal profile] ghost_bait 2017-03-10 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Miku shook her head, "It's fine, really, I just... didn't want to stare at anyone." She felt like she looked so overcome by everything so often, that it would've been hard to relax if she'd been looking around. "Sometimes it's nice just to listen to people."

And not not cheat, like she had while making her way into the spring, using her retrocognition to avoid slipping and hurting herself. Miku wasn't sure of many things, but she was certain that her bun could only save her from so much. Heart-stopping embarrassment was not one of them.
wallsofjericho: (Default)

[personal profile] wallsofjericho 2017-03-10 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)

That sounded like a reasonable response, and Joey nodded at her concern. He thought walking around with her eyes shut was an overreaction, but he can understand why someone could want to avoid boldly staring.

He doesn't think it's a problem, but there's nothing wrong with her landing on the side of more polite and demure. Still, he has to dissuade her somewhat. You're going to have to stare a little, if we're going to talk."

He smiled warmly and wiggled his fingers at her. Unless she can read his mind, Joe needed people to stare. "Anyway, I think most of us who are underdressed are comfortable with being seen."

ghost_bait: ([Smile] I Can Make You Happy)

[personal profile] ghost_bait 2017-03-13 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah.. you are right..." Miku replied after a moment. "It wasn't abnormal at home, but it wasn't something I particularly participated in, either." Her mother wouldn't have allowed it, not even an iota.

Her eyes went up, looked at Joey, and then went right back down at the water.

Oh, I see. This is a new thing for you, he signed, unsure if she could even see him enough for the telepathic earplugs to have an effect. I promise we'll behave when you're here.

[personal profile] ghost_bait 2017-03-15 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
She caught about half of what he had signed, and smiled a little. "Thank you, very much." Miku inclined her head respectfully. "I'm not sure what the traditions were like where you're from. When?"
